Denise Boyd Shield 2023

Another huge meet at the Denise Boyd Shield today at QE2 which was the second largest QA Shield Meet ever with a whopping 640 competitors.

Conditions were tough early with a very unpredictable wind in the sprints, hurdles and 800m but things improved later with the 3000m events.

In what was truly nail-biting stuff, 3 of our athletes snuck under the National qualifying in the 3000m with Laura Bray 10.44, fastest Under 14, Zel Van Loggerenberg 10.48 2nd fastest U14 and Seb Croke 9.38 while Sonny Adam ran a 10.12 PB.

While the wind made the 800m tough, Tate Van Camp with 2.07 was still 9 seconds quicker than the next fastest U14 and Finn O’Keefe had a first- up hitout in 2.05.48.

Joel Drew was again very good in winning his U18 400m hurdles in 56.65 as well as running well in the 100m, while George Daly made a good fist of a first- up 400m hurdles outing with a 62.52 clocking as fastest U20 and Connor Campbell ran solidly in the 200m hurdles.

Ethan Dallinger with 13.06 and Harry Cootes 200m 27.60 both recorded PBs on a day when they were hard to come by in the sprints.

Andrew Pfeffer managed to just hold on in the 200m from Lachie Kennedy making a good fist of the comeback trail.
Daniel Drew continued his good form over 100m and 200m while Aidan and Ethan Dallinger had some pre-titles hitouts in the Triple Jump. Cristian Kuenzel put up a good 2.95n effort in the Pole Vault.

Adrian Keen recorded a PB at Qld Masters in the morning and backed up with a 40.42m effort. Hamish Middleton 40.27m and Carl Martin 39.92m were solid in the Discus.
