A bit of controversy and some fun times and mind-blowing performances at the Benita Willis Shield and State 5k at UQ today.
Sonny Adam produced a handy 16.32 to be 16th U20 in the 5k Title – not bad for a 15 year old given at the start of the year his 5k PB was 17.30.
Phil Lock’s last throw attempt to regain 2nd place from me in the Masters Discus came unstuck with a controversial foul call but we are both still a long way behind Adrian Keen’s 39.22m.
Joel Drew was also on the wrong end of a line ball DQ for a false start in the 110m Hurdles but it seemed to only fire him up as he produced an amazing 22.13 second win with a legal 1.3 m/s tailwind in the A Grade 200 metres.
There were also very good 100/200m efforts from Andrew Pfeffer and Isaac Roach who recorded 11.46/23.57 and 11.87/24.59 respectively.
Ben Caughley was 3rd in the A grade High Jump with an excellent 1.90m.
Lee Martin returned to great form in the Shot Put with a 16.27 shot ahead of Isaiah Burgess in 3rd with 14.34.
Lynda Bateson in the Throws and Laura Bray in the 800m keep our point score ticking over which was just as well given some of the wear and tear our athletes have suffered after the recent school competitions which limited our turnout a bit.
Well done everyone on some really impressive efforts.
