A picture perfect day in the Nation’s Capital for the National Cross Country today at the purpose-built course at Stromlo Forest Park.
The depth of talent on display throughout the age groups was unbelievable right through the fields and if the effect of Brisbane 2032 is that more of this talent stays in it longer learning as they go to achieve their potential that will be a great result for the sport.
Both of our girls Zel Van Loggerenberg in the Under 14s 3k and Lara Wannenburgh in the Under 16s 4k performed admirably after succumbing to the rampant illnesses around Brisbane in the past fortnight bouncing back well to finish 21st (Zel) and 49th (Lara).
Tom Burrows battled through some lower back issues to get fourth in the 3k Para race.
Congratulations to everyone involved in a high standard edition of the Nationals in what was unusually balmy weather for Canberra.
