What a great night we had tonight with a visit by Channel Nine Sport’s Wally Lewis to Ashgrove Rangers training at The Gap High School.
Channel Nine approached us a couple of weeks ago about having Wally attend a training session to deliver his weekly footy tips as part of a promotion for clubs doing Olympic sports and Nine’s Olympic sports coverage.
Wally emphasised to us beforehand how important it is to keep healthy competitive sporting pathways alive for kids given how much they can learn from sport at a critical time in their lives.
He spoke of how he benefited from similar visits from leading sports figures during his own youth.
Wally participated in Shot and Javelin training and got to see some of our accomplished and aspiring performers in running, Long Jump, Shot and Javelin as well as signing autographs.
A big thanks to Channel Nine for what was an evening of which I’m sure all of us will forever retain fond memories.
