A successful running of our South Burnett Express Rail Trail Relay today with 19 teams making it to the start line in the end up from 8 teams in 2021 and 10 teams in 2022.
This year the event was the Queensland Road Relay Championships for the first time and there were great efforts from the Ashgrove Rangers Mixed A Team and Ashgrove Ernies Women’s team each scored second place and Brisbane Road Runners Ernies Men’s team third place in their respective categories behind winners Toowong Harriers (Men’s and Women’s) and Track Attack Sunshine Coast (Mixed).
It was also great to see some strong runs from Dan Murray’s Mixed B Team.
The race is 60k from Kingaroy to Wondai and back along the excellent bitumenised Rail Trail facility with changeovers at the towns of Crawford, Memerambi, Wooroolin and Tingoora along the way.
This has been a huge organisational undertaking for our club particularly at this time of year where the summer season finale also has us working very hard right through April so a big thanks to everyone involved.
We are grateful also to Queensland Athletics and the other clubs involved from all round South-East Queensland who helped make it a great day and also to the South Burnett Mountain Bike Club for their help with the Barbecue.
In what can sometimes become a tough grind in our sport in the pursuit of individual excellence, Relays can give us that extra perspective of balance achieved through working hard with others towards a common goal in a friendly environment.
Well done everyone and thanks for helping us keep alive the special spirit of these events.
