The South Burnett Express Rail Trail Relay is all about running, teamwork and enjoying an amazing part of Queensland. Teams of 5 – 8 battle it out over 60km of relay legs from Kingaroy to Wondai and return. A kid’s race will also be held to ensure they don’t miss out on the action. It is held on the May Labour Day long weekend each year.
The Ashgrove Rangers are the group behind the event. Long distance relay races were a big part of the running scene in Queensland for a number of years (The Caboolture-Maleny Relay and ‘The 500’ were iconic events which would draw teams from afar), however due to the increase road traffic, insurance challenges and the increase in risk they were stopped. We stumbled across the Rail Trail up at Kingaroy and decided to revingorated this style of competition again.
As a club, we always enter a number of teams. If you are interested in getting involved keep eye out for updates – we start confirming interest around March/April each year. There is a small entry fee and all proceeds go to the club.
