QLD Athletics Cross Country Relays 2024

A tremendously enjoyable day of friendly but competitive contests on a fast flat track at Nudgee College with Ashgrove and Toowong ending up with equal second highest number of teams on 16 behind an incredible 29 teams for Athletics North.

Bronze Medal to our Under 20 Men’s team where we knew after a sub-16 5k at Sandgate that we had an in-form Sonny Adam but Daniel Casey and Ethan Bird who ran up as a 15 year old really lifted on the day.

The Bronze Medal to our Open Team of Alex Tams, Erin Cruse and Tash Shourbaji hopefully showed our very promising group of youngsters the opportunities that will come if they can keep sticking at it consistently through the years.

Daniel Casey with 9:37 was our fastest in the Men’s while Lara Wannenburgh around the 11:15 mark was quickest in the Women’s.

Ashgrove had four teams – the most of any club – in the combined U16/18/20/Open Women’s event.

Our younger competitors at State Relays were tremendous showing plenty of spirit across the age groups and some even backing up from the school events in the morning.

Congratulations to Queensland Athletics for organising another outstanding edition of the Relays, to all of our athletes, parents, coaches, helpers and officials and to all the other clubs who pushed us to do our best.
