Joanna Stone Shield 2024

Another excellent 6th place team performance out of 47 clubs at the Joanna Stone Shield today and we were honoured to see Joanna’s coach Mike Frawley on hand to assist and cheer on Ashgrove Rangers athletes in the throws.

An absolute shock win in the Open Men’s A Grade 1500m to former State 1500m and 3000m medallist Brendan Press in 4:00.92 with a blistering final straight highlighted today’s meet. A big thanks to Paul Circosta and training partner Aidan Hobbs for recent encouragement of Brendan back into the winners circle.

There were also very good wins to Cooper Lofts with a 44.89m PB in Under 16 Javelin who was also 2nd in Shot Put with 10.59m, Isaiah Burgess Under 18 Shot 14.78m and Tiana Solley in Heat 3 of the Women’s 100m in 12.29.

Andrew Pfeffer was rewarded for recent consistency with an electric 11.26 100m PB, Hayden Boyd a 400m PB of 55.25 and Hayden Lockhart a National Qualifier of 15.99 in the 100m hurdles while Joe Jackson and Isaac Ting recorded handy Under 18 110m Hurdles efforts of 15.55 and 16.25.

Adrian Keen was in exceptional form in the Masters throws taking a treble with Shot 12.05m, Hammer 43.30m and Javelin 38.37m while Phil Lock posted a Shot Put PB of 6.30m.

Aidan Dallinger was consistent and busy with an 11.32 100m, 51.88 400m and 5.96m Long Jump that also had some very big fouls while Lyndon Maynard recorded 5.78m in the Long Jump and Cristian Kuenzel 10th in Pole Vault with 3.00m.

Lynda Bateson kept the points score ticking over with 2nd in Masters Shot and Javelin.

It was a busy day all round beyond the Shield Meet with some very good performances also at Little As Regionals, Masters and in very inhospitable conditions in a 250-strong field at Ashgrove parkrun where Lara Wannenburgh led the Women home in an excellent 20:40.

So much going on and so many athletes making such whole-hearted efforts across the board – it’s great to be a part of at the moment.
