I often think we are the luckiest club in Australia with the athletics community we have around us at Ashgrove and once again this year the workload that Gary Morrisby has taken on with The Gap Little Athletics, Queensland Athletics as an official and Ashgrove Rangers and nearby schools as a coach has been nothing short of tremendous in terms of overall contribution to the sport.
I have come to appreciate more and more the value that learning the basic all-round skills of athletics in running, jumping and throwing has in developing skills not only for our sport but other sports and all-round mobility as well.
And once again at today’s Glynis Nunn Shield at QE2 it was obvious that we benefit from a great feed from both Arana Little As and The Gap Little As.
Add to that a top crop of athletes from one of the strongest athletics schools in Australia in Marist College Ashgrove and our recreational running ties with the Ernies, Ashgrove parkrun and Des Connor parkrun as well as a strong regular presence at Bunyaville parkrun and there’s plenty of scope around Ashgrove for everyone to find a path in the sport.
Thanks Gary along with everyone else who has helped our sport thrive in 2023 through voluntary service to our club and the other organisations in our area.
