Some of us were a bit rusty after the longer than usual Christmas break but there were still some handy performances at the Garry Brown Shield to open proceedings at QE2 today for the 2024 year.
Early fouls and somewhat lesser jumps were forgotten as Aidan Dallinger produced a big final effort of 13.21m to take the Open Triple Jump near the close of proceedings.
Tiana Solley also jumped well first-up with 5.53m for 6th in the Open Women’s Long Jump while Lyndon Maynard was 7th in the Open Men’s High Jump with 1.75m.
Headwinds made quick times difficult in the 100m but then better conditions in the 200m came along with good runs by Haiden Boyd who won his heat convincingly in a good PB of 23.55 while Andrew Pfeffer and Lachie Kennedy also showed lots of promise with first-up efforts of 23.23 and 23.67.
It was a huge day for Adrian Keen and Phil Lock backing up off Gold and Silver medals in the Qld Masters Weights Pentathlon this morning for 1st and 3rd in Masters Discus.
Lynda Bateson was first in 60 plus Discus with 16.26m while Laura Bray was 3rd in U16 2K Steeple with 7:37.32.
I was proud of everyone’s first up efforts and the consistent competition schedule over the next couple of months should see us with considerable improvement opportunities as we get closer to the big State and National meets in March/April.
