In 1991 the ‘Ashgrove Rangers Gift’ was added to our calendar and is held in August each year at the The Gap High oval. ‘The Gift’ is made up of two combined all age races. The first is a handicap event held over 120 metres comprising heats and a final. The second race is a handicap mile (1600m) race. The relatively short distances and use of handicaps makes for close finishes. There is a small entry fee which is shared as a prize with the winners of each race.

The Gift is open to members and non-members and it attracts a lot of interest. Local community legend, Ron Ward, became the first dual winner in 1995 and 1999. Ron has graciously sponsored the winning trophies since and presents them each year.
