Dane Bird-Smith Shield 2025

The Dane Bird-Smith Shield today at QE2 was a bit quieter for us in the end with a few athletes resting up before States after a lot of recent racing.

Whether you encountered good conditions or not for your event was pure chance as the wind swirled all over the place between big headwinds to big tailwinds and everything in between.

Newcomer Justus S’Au became National Qualifier number 23 with 40.53m to win the Under 13 Discus and sister Genesis was 3rd in Under 18 Discus with 38.46m.

In the Masters Discus Adrian Keen was in good form with 43.98m ahead of Phil Lock 19.79m who got the better of John Purcell (again) with 19.62m.

Connor Campbell was 2nd in the Under 18 400m Hurdles with a very strong 58.68.

In the sprints Andrew Pfeffer ran a good 60m into a 2.1 m/s headwind and in the 200m was 23.36 with Haiden Boyd 23.24.

A PB to Dylan Reid 2:11.87 was a very good effort on a tough day for 800m runners. We had strong depth with Patrick Reid 2:23.35, Elliott Stannard 2:34.71 and Nick Bray 2:49.48 in the Men’s.

The Women’s 800m Division was also strong with Zel Van Loggerenberg 2:19.94, Kristina Kersten 2:24.32 and Isla Reid 2:33.20.

Well done everyone on another good day’s effort.
