What a fantastic event the Petfield Cross Country Challenge is with so many present and past colourful Ashgrove running identities combining today at Dorrington Park Ashgrove to help organise an event that a very enthusiastic bunch of emerging local Primary School youngsters seem to thrive on.
Teams Trophies went to The Gap State School for the first time ever in the Girls and to defending champions Marist College Ashgrove in the boys.
The race is named in honour of the late Joyce Petfield OAM and her husband Ron who were the driving forces behind our club for many years after it was founded in 1962.
Sonia Hams who was one of many young athletes coached by Joyce at Dorrington Park in the 1980s presented the trophies.
A big thanks to Sonia and also to Gina de la Cruz who made an auspicious debut as Event Director of a very successful renewal of the event along with all of the school coaches, parents and in particular budding young athletes who were involved.
